Match preview: Barnsley vs Forest in association with Football Index

18 July 2020

Check out all you need to know ahead of Nottingham Forest's match against Barnsley at Oakwell on Sunday, in association with Football Index.

Nottingham Forest make the journey to South Yorkshire for their final away game of the regular season against Barnsley on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

The Reds could kick-off at Oakwell knowing that a play-off place is secure should results go their way on Saturday, but a win against The Tykes would guarantee a top-six spot before the final day of the season.

Barnsley are deep in the relegation fight, and their fate could also be sealed before a ball is kicked on Sunday, but should results go their way then only a win will do to preserve their second-tier status.

From the opposition

Barnsley head coach Gerhard Struber knows his side must be more clinical if they are to stand a chance of survival in the Championship.

The Tykes missed a host of chances in the 1-0 defeat to Leeds on Thursday, a result which could prove costly in their battle to avoid the drop.

Speaking after that defeat, Struber said: "It’s difficult to find the right words at the moment; it’s a frustrating situation. I think, especially the last few games, we play on our absolute limit. But our big issue at the moment is to use top chances and taking responsibility for the goal.

“Sometimes we need a kick-off. It’s always a big question when you don’t have the right balance to score goals, but you have to work hard for this moment to score a goal and, at the moment, we have no time to wait – we have to score goals and the next big opponent is waiting for us.

“If we play in the same style, we can create chances, but it’s the responsibility for my offensive players.”
