Andy Cook was delighted with his side’s 3-2 victory over Wolves yesterday evening as Nottingham Forest continued their pre-season campaign.

Speaking after the victory Cook said: “I’m delighted with last night’s result.

“We were expecting a really tough game and that’s what we got.

“To get the victory and keep building a strong pre-season campaign is great and to play exactly how we wanted to is fantastic.

“We’ve been trying a new playing style during pre-season so be able to give that full run out is good.”

The Reds dominated yesterday evening’s proceedings but were made to pay the price for a late lack of concentration as they conceded two goals in the game’s final minute. Cook hopes that his side learn from yesterday’s mistake to ensure their standards don’t drop once the new season begins.

Cook explained: “We always want to keep clean sheets, everyone does but we changed the team heavily throughout the second-half so we knew it could happen.

“But we have standards that we want to maintain, even in a pre-season friendly, so we’ve got to work the mistakes out of the team.

“They were both great finishes from Wolves but we need to maintain our standards and make sure when the season starts we aren’t doing the same thing.”

Bex Rayner picked up the side’s opening goal of the evening as last season’s young player of the season finished off a neat finish.

Cook was pleased to see Rayner continue her impressive form into the new season.

“Bex is a quality player so it’s great to see her pick up from where she left off,” he said.

“She picked up a slight injury towards the end of March so we’re monitoring her playing time during pre-season.

“But the half-an-hour she had during the game was fantastic and she played really well.”

Charlotte Steggles netted Forest’s other two goals of the fixture as she scored two impressive efforts.

Cook was also delighted to see Steggles get amongst the goals. He said: “We already knew that Charlotte Steggles had them goals in her, we saw her do it for the reserves last season.

“Her second goal was an absolute rocket of a free-kick so I am delighted to see get off the mark.”
