Lyndsey Harkin picked up the Players’ Player of the season award last weekend which she describes as a ‘huge honour’.
She said: “I think to be recognised by your team mates is a huge honour.
“I love being part of this team so for them to vote me as players’ player of the season I am really grateful.
“I’m glad that we got chance to finish off the season with the virtual awards night as it was nice to round off the season and reminisce over our good memories.”
With the 2019/20 season expunged from the record books and what The Reds achieved on the pitch voided Harkin explains that the past few months won’t be in spite and has built the ‘foundations’ for seasons to come.
“Although we didn’t win anything as such, I think that we have achieved so much in building the foundations for success in the future both on and off the pitch,” the Forest captain said.
“As a team and as well as individuals the way the team have improved has been great to see.
“We didn’t start off so well at the start with three losses but we showed our strengths and togetherness to come back fighting and go on a long unbeaten run.
“We have come a long way since last season, virtually a whole new team as well as staff and the way we have gelled has been phenomenal.
“I’m very proud to be part of this team and club which is moving in the right direction.”
The date for when football returns for the side is still unknown due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic but Harkin looks ahead to her team’s ‘important’ upcoming campaign.
The defender said: “Football is obviously a big part of our lives but we understand that with what is going on in the world right now that the season had to finish like it did.
“The most important thing was the safety and health of everyone.
“Although we were gutted we have used this time off to reflect and now look forward to the next campaign.
“We don’t know when things are going to get back to normal but we are ready to go whenever that happens.
“We have our off-season programs to work to which will put us in the best position to be right at it when pre-season starts.
“I can’t wait to get back on the training pitch with everyone, we have missed it so much.
“Next season is an important one and one we are all looking forward to.”
