Match preview: Fylde vs Nottingham Forest

12 March 2020

Nottingham Forest take to the road again on Sunday as they face Fylde for the second time in three weeks.

The two sides last met in February where The Reds left it late to seal all three points. Bex Rayner had put the side ahead with a solo stunning effort on the 11th minute but The Coasters quickly drew level only four minutes later through Laura Merrin. Helena Constantinou came off the bench with less than 10 minutes to ago and found the winner deep into stoppage time as she made it 2-1 on the 93rd minute.

Forest extended their unbeaten league run to six games last Sunday as they were forced to settle for a point away to Huddersfield Town. The Reds found themselves behind after only two minutes as Lucy Sowerby gave The Terriers the lead. But Forest piled on the pressure as they were determined not to suffer their first league loss since September and Precious Hamilton drew the team level on the 71st minute. Despite The Reds continuing to battle until the final whistle for a late winner the highly physical encounter came to an end and The Reds were sent back home with only a point.

Fylde were also held to a 1-1 draw last Sunday as the points were shared between the North-West side and Derby County. Danielle Young put The Coasters ahead inside the first-half but The Rams clawed back a point with a late Callan Barber penalty kick.

Five places separate the two sides in the league standings as Forest sit in fourth and Fylde down in ninth. The Reds have picked up five more wins than their weekend opponents as they have 12 more points than them. A point on Sunday would see Forest surpass last season’s point tally with still nine games to go. The Trickies currently sit with 25 points and have a chance to move up to second once they play their games in hand. Picking up at least point from the rest of their season games would also see the side finish the campaign with their highest point total since the 2015/16 season.
