The final of the Nottinghamshire County Cup is in Nottingham Forest’s sight on Sunday afternoon as they welcome Ollerton Town to Eastwood CFC (kick-off 3:30pm).
The Reds’ reserve side also have hopes of making the final of the cup as they take on Arnold Town also at Eastwood CFC (kick-off 11:30am).
Forest progressed through to the final four with a 6-0 quarter-final win over Notts County development back in November. Katie Middleton captained the side and marked the occasion with a brace and Mai Moncaster netted her fourth County Cup goal of the season with a first-half strike. Sophia Bonser and Aimee Hickingbotham added a goal each inside the opening 45 minutes and Georgia Hewitt rounded off the scoring with an effort in the second-half.
Ollerton, who currently ply their trade in the East Midlands Regional League Premier, booked their place in the semi-finals of the competition with a 9-0 win over Arnold Eagles development. Forest reserves overcame Mansfield Town 4-3 in the quarter-finals to book a final four date with Arnold Town who brushed aside Rise Park 3-2 back in November.
Forest and Ollerton met in the final of the competition last season when The Reds grinded out a deserved 1-0 win to lift the trophy for a record 13th time. Helena Constantinou struck in the second-half to seal the win for her side as the team lifted the trophy for a fourth consecutive season.
The Reds come into the fixture looking to bounce back to winning ways after falling to a disappointing defeat away to Middlesbrough two weeks ago in the FA Women’s National League Plate. Bolu Fisher came on to net a consolation goal for the side but ‘Boro held on to book their place in the next round.
Forest haven’t lost a game on home turf since September when unbeaten league leaders Sunderland condemned The Reds to only their second home defeat of the season. The side also haven’t conceded a goal at Eastwood CFC since October and have scored nine goals in their last three home games. Forest will be looking to continue this form on Sunday but Ollerton will prove to be a tough test for the team as the sides battle for a place in the final.
The reserve side come into the fixture full of confidence after their last outing saw them book a place in the final of the FA Women’s National League reserve cup two weeks ago. The team welcomed Huddersfield Town development to Eastwood CFC and after the game was tied up 2-2 after 90 minutes to tie when into extra-time. The Terriers took a 3-2 lead and looked to secure the win but Annabel McKechnie netted in the dying seconds of the game to see it through to penalties. The Reds netted all five of their spot kicks unlike their opponents to seal a place in the final and will be hoping to carry this winning form into Sunday’s game.
