Cook happy to tame Terriers' bite

23 September 2019

Andy Cook expressed his delight after his side picked up their third consecutive victory on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town.

Beaming after the game Cook said: “I’m absolutely delighted to get the three points and to come away with the victory.

“Credit to Huddersfield they put us under so much pressure in the second-half, so to come away with the three points were absolutely delighted and were just really happy that we saw the game out.”

The Reds headed into half-time 2-0 up but endured a nervy final half to the game as Huddersfield came out fighting to try and earn something from the match. The Terriers pulled a goal back to half the deficit but Forest battled hard and defended well to ensure they made it another win. Cook was extremely pleased with his side battling performance across the game in the wet weather conditions.

“We’ve been talking about the strength and character of the team and the way that we battle, not just in the 85th minute, the 1st, 2nd and 12th whatever minute we need to battle for the ball and that’s what we did today.” Cook explained.

“Yes, we gave one away and when we look back we’ll think we could’ve possibly have stopped the cross and given away a few less free-kicks, those frustrating things in the game.

“But the way that the girls battled and that they didn’t crumble and stuck to the task and we had a couple of good chances in the end for ourselves.

“Mai Moncaster went through but she was offside and it was fantastic first 20 minutes from her for the club as well and then Izzy Dalton went flying up that right-hand side and she hit one just wide of the post.”

The Reds have enjoyed a terrific run of results as they have picked up with three wins in their last three games, scoring eight goals and have only conceded the one. Cook believes that these recent results will be ‘fantastic’ for their momentum going forward as they search to carry on climbing up the league standings.

Cook said: “Three games played, three wins and only one conceded is fantastic for our momentum going forward.

“Our issue at the start of the season was we had such a short pre-season, I came in the day before we began pre-season and we didn’t have a big chunk of time together.

“The first three games of the season we were all over the place but we’ve now slowly picked up points and picked up momentum and everything’s coming together now.

“The way we want to play, our defensive mind-set and the battle and attitude of everyone, yes, there were a few errors but everyone in the team had their moments in the game where they were battling and winning the first and second balls.

“It’s not pretty but its effective and it’s something we’ve said after the first couple of games we need to earn the right to play and I think that’s what we’ve done in the last three games.”
