A much-changed Nottingham Forest side produced a terrific team performance on Sunday afternoon as they beat Newark Town 13-0 to book their place in the third round of the Nottinghamshire County Cup.
Five Reds earnt their first starts of the season as Andy Cook brought in Philippa Davies, Sophia Bonser, Helena Constantinou, Ashleigh Edwards and Aimee Hickingbotham into his starting 11. Kirstie Hunt also made her first start and appearance for the Forest first-team as the reserve side captain was called upon to make her bow. Olivia Cook also donned the captain’s arm-band for the tie as she led out the side for the first time.
Seven different Reds etched their names on the scoresheet as the game saw Laura Dexter, Sianna Bennett and Mai Moncaster fire in their first goal for the club. Ashleigh Edwards got the ball rolling for the side as she put The Reds ahead inside the opening three minutes, she then bagged herself another later on in the first-half. A goal a-piece from Dexter and Bennett and hat-tricks from Constantinou and Moncaster all set The Reds on course to pick up the win. Georgia Hewitt also joined in on the goal-scoring party and she buried a brilliant solo effort to net only her second goal for the club.
It took The Reds only three minutes to go ahead in the fixture as Edwards carried the ball through the Newark final third whilst holding of several blue shirts before slotting her shot in the bottom right-hand corner of goal.
Dexter doubled her side’s lead only three minutes later from the penalty spot. Hickingbotham was brought down in the area and Dexter remained composed in front of goal as she smashed her spot-kick past the ‘keeper and into the top left-hand corner of the goal.
Casper made it 3-0 to The Reds on the 18th minute as she continued her fine goal-scoring form. Hickingbotham dribbled with the ball into the home side’s box before laying off a short pass to Casper who finished well from close-range.
Casper netted her fourth in two games only 60 seconds later as she added Forest’s fourth. A well-weighted pass was slipped through the Newark defence and into the path of an on-rushing Casper who saw her drilled effort from the edge of the box nestle itself in the bottom left-hand corner of goal.
Edwards bagged her brace on the half an hour mark as she was on hand to smash home a re-bound effort after Bonser had seen her shot come bouncing back off the goal-post.
The Reds were awarded a second penalty kick on the 34th minute after Dexter was bulldozed down inside the area by the Newark ‘keeper. Casper stepped up to net her hat-trick but the Forest striker saw her effort sail over the cross-bar.
Constantinou made it 6-0 on the 38th minute as last season’s County Cup final hero etched her name on the goal sheet. Forest strung together several delightful passes inside the Newark final third before Constantinou placed a great shot underneath the ‘keeper from inside the area.
A third penalty-kick to The Reds saw Bennett get off the mark for the season. Constantinou was hacked down in the area and defender Bennett made no mistake from the spot as she extended Forest’s lead five minutes from half-time.
The Reds picked up from where they left off in the second-half as another penalty-kick saw Constantinou add her second and the side’s eighth of the afternoon on the 50th minute.
Moncaster was up next to grab her first goal in Garibaldi as she made it 9-0 on the 53rd minute with a powering effort. Moncaster left the back-line behind as she charged with the ball into the Newark box before burying a terrific shot into the near corner of the goal.
Constantinou sealed her hat-trick 10 minutes later after the home side failed to clear a corner-kick that eventually was turned home by the young Forest midfielder to bag her first hat-trick in red.
Forest continued to run riot in the final 20 minutes of the cup tie as Moncaster made it 11-0 on the 72nd minute. Dexter sliced a strong pass through to Moncaster who broke free into the home side’s box before finishing past the ‘keeper.
Hewitt got the goal she had been searching for in the side’s recent fixtures with a fine solo effort. Hewitt picked up the ball and weaved her way through several blue shirts before smashing and effort from inside the area that flew into the top left-hand corner of the net.
Moncaster rounded off the afternoon’s scoring on the 86th minute in style as she netted again to secure her hat-trick. Arguably the most spectacular of The Reds’ bunch, Moncaster rocketed a wonderful shot from over 22 yards out that soared over the helpless ‘keeper’s head in goal.
