Match preview: Newark Town vs Nottingham Forest

17 October 2019

Nottingham Forest begin their quest of retaining the Nottinghamshire County Cup on Sunday afternoon as they make a short trip across the city to take on Newark Town away from home.

The Reds will be hoping to lift the trophy for a fifth straight season and be crowned champions for a 14th time in the club’s history.

Forest enter the competition at the second-round stage along with the club’s reserve side who take on Mansfield Hosiery Mills in a home tie on Sunday as well. Along with the two fixtures featuring the Forest sides there will be six other games kicking-off across Nottingham on Sunday afternoon with all teams hoping to book a place in the competition’s third round.

The Reds most recently lifted the County Cup last April as they defeated Ollerton Town 1-0 thanks to a second-half strike from Helena Constantinou. Eight Reds that started the cup final are still playing for the club this season and can potentially continue their County Cup form on Sunday afternoon. But after a wave of new signings during the off season plenty of new faces can make their County Cup bow.

Ellie Casper found the back off the net for the first time in red last Sunday as a brace from the forward helped the side book their place in the next round of the FA Women’s National League Plate. Casper can potentially make her Notts County Cup debut on Sunday as she looks to add to her goal scoring tally.

Bolu Fisher is another Red that could line-up for the side on Sunday as she’ll look to build on last week’s 90 minutes she earnt in the league plate. Fisher recorded two assists on the last game as she helped sure Forest headed back to Nottingham the happier of the two sides. If selected Fisher will be looking to get amongst the goals and grab her first of the season on Sunday after already playing a hand in some this season.

Sunday’s opposition, Newark Town, currently play in the Nottinghamshire Girls and Ladies’ Senior League and currently sit in 10th place with five points from five games. They most recently picked up a strong 9-4 win over Teversal FC in the Senior League Cup and will be looking to spoil The Reds county cup party on Sunday.
