Cook delighted with Reds win

11 October 2019

Andy Cook only had high praise for his side following their impressive 3-0 win and team performance on Thursday evening away to Loughborough Foxes.

Speaking after the game Cook expressed his joy at his side’s performance across the full 90 minutes. He said: “It was just a brilliant game and brilliant performance.

“The team from Aja Aguirre all the way through to Precious Hamilton, every single one of them. I couldn’t ask for anything more from them.

“If you’re looking at it critically though we should’ve scored more goal., Loughborough defended well, did what they needed to do and cleared a few of the line. That was tough to take.

“But Precious Hamilton scored a great goal for the third and Bex Rayner was absolutely unplayable tonight.

“Katie Middleton produced an absolute performance-and-a-half tonight and she was unfortunate not to get a goal. It was a really pleasing and complete performance.”

Along with scoring three great goals and picking up maximum points, The Reds also recorded a well-deserved clean sheet and Cook explained how he was thoroughly impressed with his back line and goalkeeper.

“We did what we needed to do defensively tonight to keep a clean sheet,” Cook stated. “We’ve spoken a lot as a group about what we need to do and earning the right to play and we did that tonight.

“It did take 60 minutes for us to really battle our way and feel like we were dominating and finally playing and we’ve got to go through that every single week.

“It’ll be no different when we go and play Chester-le-Street on Sunday.

“It was a great performance at the back, Aja Aguirre did brilliantly, Lyndsey Harkin and Liv Cook at centre half did superbly.

“We brought on Sianna Bennett and she was fantastic as well. Izzy Dalton and Georgia Hewitt were fantastic at full back as well but along with the rest of the team everyone had a great performance.”

Thursday evening also saw the side bounce back to winning ways and Cook explained how that means ‘everything’ to everyone associated with the club.

Cook said: “Winning’s everything. We win and everyone’s happy. The whole team, the whole club and the whole city’s behind us.

“It’s great to get back to winning ways and secure a 3-0 win, which we probably could’ve had more.

“But we were pleased to get the clean sheet which helps boost the goal difference.

“As a team we loving playing under the lights, who doesn’t love an evening game and it was fantastic to play tonight and get the win.”
