Nottingham Forest earned a 6-0 victory on Sunday afternoon as they were comfortable winners over Lincoln City to continue their pre-season campaign.
Goals from Katie Middleton, Laura Dexter, Ashleigh Edwards, a trialist and a brace from Precious Hamilton all earnt the Reds their first win of pre-season as they side netted six brilliant goals on their way to victory.
Ellie Casper was also introduced as a late substitute to make her debut in Garibaldi Red and there was a return of a familiar face as long-term red, Laura-Jayne O’Neill, made her first appearance for the side in over year after she has fought her way back from injury.
Middleton opened the scoring for Forest on the 14th minute as last season’s top goal scorer fired herself back in amongst the goals. After picking up the ball in deep inside Lincoln’s final third Middleton cut back into the penalty area before smashing a well-placed effort into the near right-hand corner of the goal.
Laura Dexter continued her impressive start to life in a Forest shirt as she grabbed her second in as many games four minutes later to put the Reds 2-0 up. After creating some space down the left Dexter scooped a high cross into the box that went searching for Middleton but the Lincoln ‘keeper had left her goal-line and Dexter’s crossed turned shot nestled itself in the far side of the goal.
Dexter came agonisingly close to adding a third and her second of the game minutes later as she found herself free to shoot on goal inside the box. After some good movement Dexter dragged the ball away from her marker inside the area and blasted a shot at goal but the ‘keeper denied her the chance of a brace as she pushed the effort over the crossbar.
The Reds made it three within 10 minutes of each other on the 24th minute as Hamilton bagged her first of the game. There were no tap-ins as of yet for Forest as Hamilton rocketed an effort from the edge of the area that soared over the head of a helpless Lincoln ‘keeper and flew into the back of the net.
Forest were awarded a free-kick on the stroke of half-time after the Lincoln centre back had controlled the ball with her hand after Izzy Sullivan floated a free kick towards the 18-yard box. The Reds’ trialist A stepped up and hit an impressive free-kick at goal that looked to be sneaking in under the crossbar but the ‘keeper pulled of an equally terrific save to push the ball over the goal.
The Reds picked up from where they left off in the second half as Ashleigh Edwards was next to join in on the goal scoring party for Forest as she made it 4-0 on the 54th minute. Another one of Forest’s trialists squared a well weighted pass through the 18-yard box and to the feet of Edwards who placed her shot past the ‘keeper and into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal.
Hamilton added the game’s fifth goal as she wrapped up her brace on the 67th minute. The Forest trialist B got her second assist of the day after she embarked on a mazey run through the Lincoln final third before she laid off a pass back to the path of Hamilton who smashed a first-time effort past the ‘keeper.
After registering two assists the Reds’ trialist B finally got one of her own as the sixth and final goal of the game came in the 79th minute. Arguably the best of the Forest bunch the tricky trialists effortlessly glided with the ball past a couple of Lincoln players before she unleashed a brilliant strike from just outside the area that flew safely into the back of the net.
Casper came close to netting her first goal in Garibaldi Red in the final stages of the game as she made an instant impact after coming off the bench. It took a great save from the ‘keeper to deny the young forward her first goal for Forest after she hit a strong first-time effort from close range.
