Nottingham Forest Women defender Lyndsey Harkin explains how she is ‘excited’ by the upcoming season as The Reds make impressive progress on and off the field during pre-season.
Harkin who is tying up her laces for another season playing in the Garibaldi Red describes the team feeling ahead of their 2019-20 FA Women National League North campaign.
“We are all excited to get started,” she said.
“There’s been a lot of positive things happening in the off season and we are all ready and raring to go.
“We have a new manager and some new players too so I am excited to get to know them all and continuing the hard work at training."
Along with bringing in eight new signings and the club’s first ever full-time Head Coach in Andy Cook the side have been boosted with technology to help improve their on the field play. The side now train and play wearing GPS technology which tracks important factors such as their heart rates and distances covered, along with in-depth video analysis reporting both for the overall team and individual player clips and Harkin believes that this can be key to unlocking a successful season for the team.
“The improvements that the club have put in place for us this season will be a huge bonus,” she continued: “I feel it will give us that extra boost and edge that will hopefully help us to get the results on the pitch too.”
The use of the new technology and the appointment of Cook comes through the successful backing of Nottingham Forest and Harkin explains how important it is for the city and fans for the team to adopt the ‘one club’ approach.
She said: “The way the men’s team are supporting us now with a one club approach is great. Nottingham Forest is a massive club and it’s important to have a good representation of women’s football in Nottingham too.
“We are happy to have the support from the club to help us achieve this.”
After a brilliant surge in game day attendances last season Harkin hopes to see the Forest faithful return again this season to support the side ahead of an exciting year. She also explains what they can expect from the side this season:
“A hard-working team looking to play good football. We have a lot of exciting players in our team and I’d encourage anyone to come down and watch us, you won’t be disappointed.”
