Nottingham Forest Women are delighted to announce the signing of proven midfielder Sophie Walton ahead of the 2019-20 FA Women’s National League North season.
Walton comes to Forest with a wealth of experience having previously played at the top end of the English Women’s footballing pyramid. The midfielder represented both Lincoln City and Notts County in the FA Women’s Super League between 2011 and 2015.
Walton then lifted the FA WSL 2 league trophy in 2018 with Doncaster Rovers Belles after a season with the club and most recently she faced up to The Reds last season for Guiseley Vixens during the 2018-19 FA WNL North campaign.
As well as spending years playing in the English top flight Walton also brings international experience as she has previously represented England at all youth levels from Under-15 to Under-23s.
On joining Forest, Walton said: “I’m really pleased to be signing for Nottingham Forest. After speaking to Lee (Billiard, general manager) about the ambitions and the direction of which the club is going, this move was a no-brainer for me. I know the city well and I know the Nottingham people have a huge passion for women’s football. Forest is a club with great history and I’m looking forward to hopefully getting this team where it rightly belongs”.
Walton linked up with the side immediately as she took part in the first training session of pre-season on Tuesday.
