Nottingham Forest head coach Andy Cook was named FA Women’s National League North/South Manager of the Month for November this week after he led his side to a 100% winning month.
Speaking after receiving his award Cook expressed his reaction to winning it. “I was surprised to be named manager of the month,” he said.
“I received the phone call with the news on Monday afternoon and that was a big shock.
“We’ve done well across November so I was also delighted to receive the award.”
Cook also explained why he was ‘shocked’ to receive the award despite his side scoring seven goals with no reply.
“It came as a shock because we’re just doing our job,” Cook continued.
“You don’t think about individual effort and the thought of winning this award.
“The minimum we’re trying to do is win football matches and trying to put a good show on for the fans.
“But it was lovely to receive the award and I’ve got some nice messages from people since.”
Cook and his side suffered a turbulent start of the season after they failed to win any of their opening three games but have since bounced back positively with nine victories out of their last 10 outings. He says that this has made receiving the award even ‘better’.
Cook said: “Absolutely it feels better after the tough start to the season we had.
“After the first three games, we had to revaluate ourselves to get us here today so to go from that to manager of the month within three months is great.
“It just shows the hard work that everyone’s put in since pre-season.”
Cook also states that the award wasn’t down to his solo efforts but everyone at the club.
“This award represents everyone at the club here, from the players to the coaching staff,” he explained.
“Marcus Ward (S&C coach), Amy Page (goalkeeping coach), and Dan Corlett (assistant coach) have been invaluable to me during my time here as they know the club and know the players.
“Plus, all of the backroom staff, everyone here has helped me somehow in this role.
“Everyone’s a part of the process and even though it says manager of the month you wouldn’t be able to get the results without everyone else.”
