Nottingham Forest turn their attention to the cup on Sunday afternoon as they travel away to Huddersfield Town for the preliminary round of the FA Women’s National League Cup.
The Reds will be searching for their first win of the campaign after they suffered an opening day defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough last Sunday. Precious Hamilton and Izzy Sullivan netted two late consolation goals for Forest in the game and both will be hoping to add to their season tallies at the weekend.
Forest cruised to a comfortable victory at this stage of the competition last season when they romped to a 3-0 victory over The New Saints. Katie Middleton bagged her first senior goal in Garibaldi Red in the match-up as she secured the side’s place in the first round of the cup with an impressive hat-trick.
Town produced a replicate result as The Reds last year as they also sailed through to the next round with a 3-0 victory. They brushed aside Middlesbrough as a brace from Brittany Sanderson and a goal Sarah Danby saw them safely through to the win.
The Terriers also come into the game against Forest without a win as they were forced to settle for a draw on last week’s opening day weekend. First-half goals from Kate Mallin and Lucy Sowerby set the side in cruise control as they looked to wrap all three points but a late comeback from Fylde ensure that the spoils were shared.
The Reds will be searching to right some wrongs in the fixture as they suffered defeat to Huddersfield on three occasions last season. All six points went the Yorkshire side’s way last year along with a league cup victory and Forest will be determined to not allow the losses to slip through their hands again.
