18-year-old goalkeeper Philippa Davies makes the move from the Nottingham Forest reserve team this season as she has been selected to play in the first-team squad.
After representing Forest at Regional Talent Centre (RTC) and Reserve team level for the past two seasons Davies expressed her delight of joining the full first team senior side.
She said: “It feels great to be a part of the first team squad this season, it is a really special feeling to me to work in such an intense and experienced environment.
“All of the players are very welcoming and I really enjoy playing alongside them,” she added.
Despite her young age Davies has already mixed with the first team squad on previous occasions in the past two seasons as she has been called in to help bolster the side but now her dedication has been rewarded with an official place in the team.
“I have felt very privileged each time I have played for the first team but to be an official member of the squad it feels fantastic and I’m looking forward to progressing further as a goalkeeper,” Davies explained.
Davies will spend the season linking up with the Reds’ ‘keeper, Aja Aguirre, and she believes that her fellow shot-stopper is a great teammate to learn from to help her improve over the course of the year.
“Aja is an outstanding keeper and major influence to work with, with the experience and ability she has got it will help me to develop as a goalkeeper throughout the season,” Davies said.
“She is very supportive and I have already learnt a lot from her during training and games. She gives great advice during drills in training, and gives encouragement constantly to help me get the best out of every session.”
Davies made the permanent switch from the Reserve side to the First Team during the summer and linked up with her new teammates during their pre-season preparations and was thrown straight into the mix as she was brought on as a substitute in the last three matches.
The young keeper expressed her joy of playing a part in the season build up; “The pre-season campaign was brilliant to be a part of, it was amazing to see a lot of support at the games and I felt very fortunate to get game time during the games and in front of the crowds.”
Davies and the rest of her Forest teammates will be heading to Middlesbrough on Sunday as they get their 2019-20 FA Women’s National League season underway.
