Simon Ireland joined the club on 26th January 2018 after departing Queens Park Rangers, a club where he had worked for almost three years.

At QPR, Ireland was the head of coaching, taking charge of the Under 18s side but now makes the step up into the first-team picture.

The 46-year-old made more than 200 professional appearances as a player during the 1990s, featuring for the likes of Huddersfield Town, Mansfield Town and Doncaster Rovers among others.

He made the step into coaching and has been in charge of Brighton and Hove Albion Under 21s, as well as assistant academy manager at Blackburn Rovers and is now a part of Aitor Karanka's first-team staff.
