Alex Mighten is hoping to make some more FA Cup memories when Nottingham Forest take on Cardiff City in the third round on Saturday.
The academy graduate made his first senior start at this stage last season away at Chelsea and is hoping for further opportunities to impress.
He said: “It is a special competition, this time last year I made my first start at Stamford Bridge and that was a massive moment for me, it was a great occasion. It creates dreams this tournament and is important for young players like myself, so we want to take it as seriously as we can and go for the win.
“It was an opportunity that I got to show people my style of play, that is massive for my development and for everyone to see what I’m about as a player.
“These competitions can’t be overlooked by anyone, of course we want to do well in the league but we have to take these games seriously and you’ve got to take your opportunity if you get that opportunity, and that is very important for me.”
Cardiff pose a different test to the one Chelsea did last season, but Mighten knows that the Bluebirds will provide a difficult challenge and that Forest will have to be at the top of their game to progress to the next round.
He said: “You have to take each game as it comes and I am really grateful for each opportunity that I get to play. We will take it as seriously as we can, the league is still really important but we take every game as seriously as we can and we want to win every game.
“It is a different occasion to last season, with no fans as well, but we take every game as seriously as the next. It is another game that we need to go out and win.
“You can’t downplay the occasion because of the opposition, we just need to go out there and try and progress to the next round.
“We don’t consider our status to other clubs, we just go out there to win. You are not going to win if you are fearful of the opposition or anything like that, you have to focus on yourself and that is what we do every game.”
