In association with Football Index, we take a look back at Nottingham Forest's clash with Leicester City on 5th December 2009...

Nottingham Forest 5-1 Leicester City

(Earnshaw 12', 32', 49', Anderson 54', Adebola 77'; Waghorn (pen) 64')

Forest: Camp, Shorey, Morgan, Wilson, Gunter, Anderson (McCleary 70'), Cohen, McKenna, Majewski (Tyson 60'), Earnshaw, Blackstock (Adebola 66')

Leicester: Weale, Neilson (Morrison 63'), Brown, Berner, Hobbs, Oakley, King, Wellens, Fryatt (Dyer 36'), Waghorn, Kermorgant (Howard 28')

Robert Earnshaw's superb hat-trick led Forest to an impressive 5-1 rout of promotion rivals Leicester City at The City Ground as The Reds extended their unbeaten league run to 11 matches.

The Welsh international produced three accomplished finishes to put Forest into a commanding three-goal lead before Paul Anderson got in on the act with an excellent finish from a tight angle.

Martyn Waghorn scored a consolation penalty for the visitors but The Reds were to have the last word as Dele Adebola buried a rebound after Chris Weale palmed away Garath McCleary's strike.

Post-match reaction

Forest manager Billy Davies: "I'm absolutely delighted with the performance and with the three points

"We played well but it's only December. We'll keep reminding everyone of that.

"I don't think we're ready for promotion. I'll keep saying that but we're certainly a team with excellent potential and we're a team making great strides forward."

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson: "It was awful. We didn't start the game well and we didn't show any discipline. When you are facing local derbies it is about making sure you are focused and up for it but we lacked that and it is not a very nice thing to have to say.

"It was the worst performance and worst result since I have been manager, but what I will say is that, although it doesn't make it any easier to stomach, it doesn't happen very often. I am the manager and I take the responsibility but now it is all about how we respond."
