Sammy has eyes on a strong finish

Sammy Ameobi says Nottingham Forest must focus on themselves as they prepare for their first home game on Sunday since the break.

The Reds face a Huddersfield Town side fighting at the bottom of the table, so Ameobi knows that challenges that faces but insists The Reds are focused on gaining all three points.

He said: “Huddersfield are down there and trying to fight for survival so we know they will give everything. We need to match that if not more and hopefully our quality will shine through and we will get the three points in the end.

“We have to be focused and we are here to get the three points. It is not about focusing on the man you are playing against or anything like that, we just have to be compact and focused as a team and focus on ourselves.

“It is important to get the win and if we start well then we can. Every game is important to win. We need to pick up our first home win after the break and build that momentum to go into the final seven or eight games and finish strongly.”

With no fans being allowed into the stadium, it will be a very different atmosphere at The City Ground on Sunday, something that Ameobi says the players must adapt to quickly.

He said: “From day one, it is one of the first thing the manager mentioned. He said he is not worried about our physical stats or our technical abilities, he just wants us to be focused, especially without any fans.

“It can turn into a training game or pre-season game, but we know what is at stake and we have to be mentally focused. It is those teams that will go to the end, those who are on the ball for 90 minutes in every game, so hopefully we can continue in that way.

“Of course, it is a shame not to have the fans with us. They are the 12th man and we really do appreciate them. You see the difference when they are not there but we have to keep going knowing that they are there in spirit, right behind us.

“The fans are incredible and at the start of the season, when I signed, I didn’t realise how big the fan base was. It is going to be very strange without them but we know they are backing us completely, promotion is something that they deserve and hopefully we can give our best for them.”
