Joe Lolley was left frustrated following Nottingham Forest’s 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
The winger scored his ninth goal of the season to put Forest in the lead on their return to action, but Wednesday hit back in injury time to level the scores.
Speaking after the game, Lolley said: “It was frustrating. We’ve got a big motivation to stay in the play-offs and maybe put pressure on the top two, so today is a missed opportunity in that respect.
“After three months out, I thought we played quite well in patches and it wasn’t a bad start. We almost expected a bit worse but I thought in general we were pretty solid it is just frustrating to concede so late.
“To be honest, I didn’t feel any different from a normal game. The whole situation itself is different but in terms of the 90 minutes it didn’t feel slow, it didn’t feel any different to a normal game in that respect. Of course the atmosphere isn’t the same but in terms of the pace of the game and the way it was played, it was very competitive and seemed normal.
“We did a great job in the time we were off in keeping ourselves fit and the lads came back in really great shape. I probably feel as fit as I have probably ever been and I still felt fit towards the end. I don’t think any of the lads in there was struggling, no one was struggling with cramp at the end and everyone feels fit and ready and physically we dealt with it quite well.”
Lolley was pleased with his goal, a fine move in which he showed great skill and composure, but knows that the team has plenty to improve upon in the final eight matches.
“It was a great ball from Cashy, literally perfect,” he said. “Then it was a good touch and finish. It was one of my better goals.
“But at the end it was sloppy from a set piece. We probably gave away too many corners and free kicks in the second half and gave ourselves too much to do. When you play a team like Sheffield Wednesday, aerially they are so good that at some point the delivery will be right.
“Maybe we could have seen the game out a bit better and managed the game better, it is just frustrating to be so late.”
