Lamouchi looks ahead to West Brom

13 February 2020

Nottingham Forest head coach Sabri Lamouchi has called on his side to be consistent as they prepare to face league leaders West Brom on Saturday.

The Reds produced a disappointing performance in midweek against Charlton and Lamouchi knows the importance of being consistent in such a competitive division.

All focus now turns to the trip to The Hawthorns and Lamouchi wants his side to take control of their own destiny this season.

He said: “The players were sad [in midweek] and they know they missed an opportunity, but it is not the first or last one. We just need to focus on the next, keep the consistency and keep working because this is the Championship.

“We are where we are because it is where we deserve to be. For me, my players deserve more points but sometimes if you have the points in your hands, you need to keep it. If not you need to take it and for that you need character and personality.

“We have been working on that and changed things, but in these seven months I don’t want to criticise my players. What they have done until now is amazing; they are fighting, they are working well and making great results against fantastic teams at home and away.

“I can understand the fans and the people around the club because one month ago or two months ago, they didn’t believe but now they are starting to believe again because the players have done a great job. The players are the first to believe in this year because they are working hard and I am with them every day so I know that.”

West Brom have been in the top two for the majority of the season and extended their lead in midweek with victory at Reading.

Lamouchi is well aware of the quality at the disposal of head coach Slaven Bilic but knows that any team can be beaten on any given day.

He said: “It is an exciting game to play because there will be a great atmosphere, a nice stadium, fantastic players and a great manager. They are doing a great job, they lost a bit of confidence but they didn’t lose a lot of games.

“They have a strong squad, they have many options and Slaven is a great manager to manage that. They deserve to win the league and they probably will, but in this league you never know what can happen.

“Anyone can win against anyone and you need to be consistent all of the time. If you lose a bit of focus and concentration, you can be surprised. It is the same for us and for many teams, sometimes you have a good moment and you need to keep that momentum.”
