Nottingham Forest’s Matty Cash feels he is growing into his role at right back following a fine display in the 1-0 win against Brentford yesterday.
Cash has stepped up to fill the role at full back and his performance was a key part of The Reds stretching their unbeaten run to ten games.
Speaking after the game, he said: “Every game I go out there and give my best and that is all I can do. My job today was to get tight to the winger because we know about the quality they have on the wings and I feel like I did well. It is early days, we just have to keep going.
“It is part of my game, getting forward, but if I do that I have to get back as well. That is the main part of the job so I do my best.
“I am loving it at right back, I’m really enjoying it. I can see the whole game but it is a tough position to play, you have to switch on and be aware of everything around you. In this league, you come up against really good wingers so it is a challenge for me but I am really enjoying it.”
Brentford provided a stern test for Forest at The City Ground but Cash believes that solid foundations as well as quality in the final third proved decisive.
He said: “We were solid and going forward we are always going to create chances with the quality we have got. It was superb and a massive three points.
“Brentford are a good team, a good footballing side. But it is like every game in this league, they are all tough games so it is a massive three points for us and we can have the break now before coming back.
“We have had loads of games, I have played a lot so it will be nice to have a few days’ break and put my feet up.
“It is still early days, we have a big few months ahead so we are just looking forward to every game and it is on to the next one.”
