Nottingham Forest are delighted to welcome D-Day veteran Ralph McClure as the special guest to lead the teams out ahead of today’s match against Derby County.
Navy veteran Ralph crewed one of the landing crafts on the Normandy Coast that took the soldiers to the beach, facing murderous fire from the German positions dug in on the coast. He will be walking out in front of the two teams as they take to the pitch as part of the club’s plans for the Remembrance fixture.
Born and bred in Nottingham, Mr McClure, 94, is one of a handful of D-Day veterans still alive in Nottingham. He received the Légion d'honneur from the French government, the highest honour that France can give, for his services and the club are honoured to have him lead out the teams today.
He will be joined by a member of the military band who will play the Last Post during the minutes’ silence as the two clubs join to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in fighting for their country.
