Ryan Yates believes that the fantastic support shown by the Nottingham Forest fans is deserving of a positive season on the pitch as the 2019-20 campaign draws closer.
The Reds fans backed the team in huge numbers last season and that shows no sign of letting up, with almost 20,000 season cards sold already for the new season, something that Yates feels needs to be rewarded.
He said: “It is nearly 20,000 already and we need to be giving something back. With last season the aim was to get promoted and we gave everything to do that but fell short.
“This season we need to make sure that we don’t because with that support and the way the club is going, it needs to be in the Premier League.”
Martin O’Neill’s side finished last season strongly, winning their final three matches without conceding a goal and Yates feels that the three at the back formation can be used to keep that momentum going.
He said: “It was working but I think you need to play 10 or 15 games before you can really set something to keep.
“Pre-season will give the manager a chance to tinker with things, see what he likes and what positions we need to strengthen and things like that.
“We have to use that momentum. I don’t think we had won three games in a row prior to that all season but I think because the pressure was off us a little bit, and playing for this club, we need to enjoy that pressure.”
