Match preview: Forest vs Wigan

25 January 2019

Nottingham Forest look to get back to winning ways on Saturday as Wigan Athletic visit The City Ground (kick-off 3pm).

The Reds lost out 1-0 to Bristol City last time out in Martin O'Neill's first game in charge and will be hoping to get their first points under the new manager.

Wigan haven't won on the road since August and will be looking to pick up some vital points in their battle at the bottom of the table, providing Forest with a tough test on Trentside.

Team news

Forest will be without Michael Hefele who has been ruled out as he undergoes surgery on his injury. Michael Dawson also remains sidelined through injury with Tobias Figueiredo, as does Tendayi Darikwa who serves the second of his three-game ban.

Danny Fox is available however, following the completion of his suspension.

The opposition view

Wigan manager Paul Cook knows his side face a tough test against The Reds in front of a packed City Ground crowd.

He said: "I was very disappointed at Sheffield Wednesday because, having hit the heights we did against Aston Villa, to go away from home and perform how we did was really disappointing for me, it really was.

"We move on, though, we go into another tough game against Nottingham Forest tomorrow and it is a game that we are determined to do well in.

"I think Martin is a proven, very successful manager and I think Nottingham Forest have a calibre of player that is there for all to see.

"If they decide to play with Daryl Murphy and Lewis Grabban up front, then they are good players, aren't they?

"Nottingham Forest are a very strong club, not dissimilar to Sheffield Wednesday last week, where they are craving success but the supporters support their team through thick and thin."

One to watch - Joe Garner

With Will Grigg and Nick Powell both sidelined through injury, the goalscoring task falls to former Red Joe Garner.

With four goals to his name this season, Garner will be keen to add to his tally as he returns to The City Ground.

Head to head

Forest wins - 3
Wigan wins - 4

Last time out - Wigan 2-2 Forest (Saturday 18th August, 2018 - Sky Bet Championship)
