Two second-half goals denied Nottingham Forest Under 23s all three points at the Impact Arena on Friday evening as they drew 2-2 with Leeds United in the Professional Development League.
First-half goals from Arvin Appiah and Leo Bonatini put The Reds in a good position, before Bobby Kamwa and an own goal meant the game finished level.
The Reds made the perfect start on four minutes when Appiah opened the scoring. The winger ran from the half-way line, skipping past two men, before unleashing a low shot into the bottom left hand corner.
Leeds responded well however and nearly levelled when Kamwa almost slipped through Mateusz Bogusz, but Jordan Wright did well to claim the loose ball first. Whites midfielder Alfie McCalmont then tried his luck from long-range but saw his effort sail over the bar.
The visitors continued to create some half chances, but it was Forest who doubled their lead on 32 minutes through Bonatini. Brennan Johnson ran through the Leeds defence before sliding in the Wolves loanee, who coolly slotted the ball into the corner to put The Reds two up going into the break.
Leeds made two changes at the break with Pascal Struijk and Ryan Edmondson coming on to replace Barry Douglas and Alfie McCalmont and they were the quickest out of the blocks in the second half. That showed when they pulled a goal back after Kamwa’s low shot beat Wright at his near post.
The visitors were in the ascendancy for most of the second half and they eventually grabbed a leveller when Bruce Hosannah fizzed in a dangerous cross which was turned into his own net by Jayden Richardson.
Forest then made a trip substitution as Kieran Hayes, Victor Sodeinde and Joe Coveney came on to replace Karim Ansarifard, Leo Bonatini and Molla Wagué.
Leeds had the better of the chances in the final ten minutes, but Forest could have snatched a winner when Sodeinde ran through on goal, but his dinked effort went over the ‘keeper and landed onto the roof of the net.
The Reds had Wright to thank late on when he fantastically tipped over a rasping drive from Edmondson onto the bar and away for a corner, as it finished level at the Impact Arena.
