Ryan Yates was delighted to have started for Nottingham Forest and pick up the three points against Brentford yesterday.
The academy graduate picked up the Man of the Match award for his display in the centre of midfield and he was happy to have pulled on the red shirt in the Championship.
Speaking after the game, he said: "I am absolutely buzzing. Just to get the call-up – I didn't even know if I was going to be on the bench. To get the full 90 and win the game is unbelievable.
"I was ready but I didn't think I would get the nod to start. You have always got to be ready and I think I took my chance.
"The manager didn't say much to me before, he just wanted me to go out and play and do what I do in training. Training is so intense, you have to train how you play and I have taken that into the game.
"I loved it and I can only enjoy it once we got the win. Being 2-0 up and the late scare, I am just so glad to come out of it with three points."
After making his first league start for the club, Yates is now eager to taste more first-team action.
He said: "I have been here since the age of eight and I have only ever wanted to play for this football club. Hopefully I will be able to get some more minutes.
"It was such a good win. Obviously, it is just three points but we didn't have much of the ball so out of possession was so important for us. They got the goal at the end but I felt comfortable at 2-0. Goals change games and we had the late scare at the end but we got through.
"Tuesday is now just another game and we have to focus on ourselves. We'll get our heads down in training and work on things that might pose a different threat to Brentford did today."
