A late equaliser from substitute Victor Sodeinde secured a point for Nottingham Forest Under 23s as they drew 1-1 at Barnsley in the Professional Development League.
An own goal from Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel put The Tykes into the lead before Forest responded well through Sodeinde’s fine strike.
The action was limited in the opening stages of the first half with either side failing to create any clear-cut chances. But the first chance did go Forest’s way when Brennan Johnson picked up the ball in the centre, drove forward and unleashed a shot that went just wide.
The pitch was in a poor condition at the Barnsley Academy and Forest continued to struggle to get a foot hold in the game as they went into the break level. But the home side did break the deadlock on 52 minutes through an own goal.
Liam Bossin’s initial save from a header hit the post before Lawrence-Gabriel turned the ball into his own net. Jimmy Gilligan then made his first change as Idris Kadded replaced Kieran Hayes.
Jake Taylor was then shown a yellow card for simulation before Sodeinde came on to replace Joe Coveney as The Reds searched for a leveller. Frustrations took over however, with Lawrence-Gabriel also being cautioned for a late challenge.
Arvin Appiah was unlucky not to score when he took on his man before curling an effort inches wide of the far post, as Forest upped the tempo. Josh Barnes was then replaced by Tyrese Fornah.
But The Reds did get their goal when Sodeinde raced into the area and fired home from close range to secure a point for his side as the game finished level.
