Sammy Ameobi says he and his teammates were pleased to come through a tricky Carabao Cup first-round tie against Fleetwood Town at The City Ground.
Tiago Silva's goal was enough to win the tie and set up a second-round clash with Derby County and although it took time to break Fleetwood down, Ameobi was happy to play a part in The Reds' first victory of the campaign.
Speaking after the game, he said: "We know it was going to be a tough game. When you play a team from a lower league you know they're going to bring some extra momentum with them and they did that. We're relieved to get the victory though and hopefully we can take this result into the game on Saturday.
"We knew that we were going to have a lot of the ball and that they were going to be quite compact at the back but we broke them down eventually and that forced them to come out at the end. We had to defend well in the final few moments but thankfully we did that.
"Tiago is a very talented player, we see him on the training ground and I believe he'll be a real success for us this season. We all need that time to gel but everyone is buying into the style of football that the manager wants to play and we're working hard every day to improve.
"I'm really grateful for the opportunity tonight. I'm getting fitter and stronger with every game that goes by and hopefully that will continue as the season goes on. I'm really enjoying my football here and looking forward to Saturday's game."
