Ten-man Nottingham Forest suffered more away-day misery as they were beaten 2-0 by Sheffield United this afternoon.
After a goalless first half, Yohan Benalouane's red card two minutes after the break changed the complexion of the contest and the home side sealed victory with goals from Mark Duffy and Enda Stevens.
Yohan Benalouane, Claudio Yacob and Daryl Murphy came into the starting 11 for the early kick-off at Bramall Lane and The Reds began well against their promotion-chasing hosts.
After withstanding the early pressure from the hosts, Forest began to find their way into the match. Yacob tried his luck on 15 minutes after a Matty Cash long throw fell to the Argentinean but his effort cleared the crossbar.
After a fairly even opening half-hour, Sheffield United created the best chance of the match so far. Former Red David McGoldrick rose above Yacob at the back post only to see his header flash across the visitors' goal.
Minutes later Forest hit back with a good chance of their own. Yacob broke from midfield to play in Murphy on the left but the Irishman’s effort whistled past the far post and the scores remained level.
Despite a flurry of crosses and a long-range effort from Blades skipper Ollie Norwood, neither side were able to break the deadlock before the half-time whistle.
The visitors got off to the worst possible start after the break as they found themselves reduced to ten men. Benalouane was adjudged to have brought down McGoldrick as he went through on goal and the Tunisian defender was shown a straight red card.
It got worse for The Reds three minutes later when they went behind thanks to a superb finish from Duffy. The midfielder found room inside the area and curled a right-footed effort into the top corner to give the home side the lead.
Forest were now facing relentless pressure from the hosts and manager Martin O’Neill turned to Lewis Grabban and Alex Milosevic from the bench to try and help ease their troubles as Murphy and Pele made way respectively.
The visitors made their final change with 15 minutes left on the clock as academy graduate Arvin Appiah replaced Yacob as The Reds went in search of an equaliser.
It was not to be for the visitors though as Chris Wilder's men added a second with five minutes left to secure all three points. McGoldrick was central to the attack as he slipped in Enda Stevens and the defender slotted the ball past Pantilimon across the face of goal and into the corner of the net.
