Forest back The Big Sleep Out

18 September 2018

Nottingham Forest are teaming up with local charity partner Framework to host their annual fundraising event, The Big Sleep Out.

This year's event will take place for the first time at The City Ground on Saturday 24th November as the club and Framework aim to tackle homelessness in the community.

Framework supports thousands of homeless and vulnerable people each year across Nottinghamshire and The Big Sleep Out is part of a programme of events taking place at The City Ground to mark the charity's status as the club's official charity partner for the 2018-19 season.

Nottingham Forest Chairman, Nicholas Randall QC, said: "It is the ambition of Mr Marinakis to not only achieve success on the pitch but for the club to recognise its obligations to the local community.

"We appointed Framework as our official charity partner for the current season to help tackle the growing problem of homelessness in our community. The work they do, especially with people on the streets, can be life-saving as well as life-changing.

"We are delighted to host Framework's largest annual fundraising event and hope that many of our supporters will want to take part and raise much-needed funds for a very worthy cause."

Several hundred people are expected to attend and raise funds through sponsorship to sleep out for a night. Funds raised will be used by Framework to help local homeless people off the streets and into accommodation.

Framework operates a street outreach service in Nottingham and across Nottinghamshire to help people sleeping rough. Team members work directly with people on the streets to address the problems they are facing and provide the best possible solutions to their homelessness. Money raised at The Big Sleep Out will support this work.

Framework chief executive, Andrew Redfern, added: "Around 40 people are sleeping rough in the Nottingham area each night. We are also finding many more in the districts and boroughs across the county. These shocking numbers reflect an alarming increase in street homelessness across the country.

"But this issue is about more than numbers. The people we help have increasingly complex problems such as profound mental and physical ill-health and addictions. They have fallen through all the safety nets that might prevent homelessness and are at rock-bottom.

"We invite people to sleep out for one night so that others don't have to. Thank you to Nottingham Forest for very kindly hosting the event and to Nottingham Building Society for their continued support in sponsoring The Big Sleep Out. We thank both organisations for setting an example of generosity that we hope others will follow."

The event will take place in the car park at the rear of the Brian Clough Stand and participants can sign up to take part by visiting www.frameworkha.org/bigsleepout.
