Nottingham Forest Under 23s suffered a cruel 4-3 defeat at the hands of Burnley on Monday afternoon after a last-minute winner for the home side.
Dan Agyei's 97th-minute winner stole all three points for The Clarets despite The Reds coming from two goals down to make it 3-3.
Forest made the perfect start on six minutes when they opened the scoring. Yassine En-Neyah broke forward and did well to slot the ball past Adam Bruce in the Burnley goal to give his side the lead.
That lead lasted just two minutes, however, when the home side quickly levelled the score. Dwight McNeil's effort from long-range bounced off the post and went in, in what was a chaotic few moments. That continued five minutes later when Tenashe Chakwana capitalised on a defensive mistake to slot the ball past Liam Bossin into the net.
After such a terrific start it went from bad to worse for Forest when Burnley had their third goal of the afternoon with not even 20 minutes on the clock. Bossin did well to push Dan Agyei's shot away but the save hit Anel Ahmedhodzic and rebounded into the net to make it 3-1.
The flurry of goals soon settled midway through the second half as the game quietened, but it was The Reds who would score next just three minutes before the break. A stunning strike from Jake Taylor found the top corner of the net to pull a goal back.
It was an even contest after the break with neither side able to create any clear-cut chances. But the first chance did fall to the visitors as En-Neyah nearly had his second of the afternoon, but his delicate dink over the goalkeeper fell just wide of the target.
Moments later, however, The Reds did make it level when Alex Mighten coolly powered the ball home from the spot with it all to play for in the final 30 minutes. Jimmy Gilligan's side continued to look for a winner, as did the home side, but it cruelly went against Forest.
Gboly Ariyibi had a glorious chance to score the winner in the 93rd minute but his shot was stopped by Bruce from close range, before Burnley went up the other end to net the winner through Agyei.
