Under 18s: Hull 2-1 Forest

10 November 2018

Nottingham Forest Under 18s suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of bottom side Hull City at Bishop Burton College on Saturday.

The spoils looked set to be shared after Fin Back had cancelled out Jacob Greaves's opener but Dan Hawkins struck with only six minutes to play to give The Tigers all three points.

George Shelvey was called into action on a number of occasions in the first half but Hull did take the lead after Hawkins’s delivery was met by the rising Greaves, who guided a bullet header into the back of the net.

Forest were given an opportunity to get themselves back into the game from the penalty spot ten minutes before the break after Harrison Foulkes was adjudged to have upended Elliott Andrew inside the box. Andrew stepped up but dragged his penalty wide of Foulkes's right-hand post.

The Reds battled hard and grabbed an equaliser when an Ethan Dekel-Daks free-kick was headed home by Back but they were then dealt a blow as Josh Barnes hobbled off injured after all three substitutions had been made.

The home side found the winning goal with six minutes remaining as Josh Ward's pass fell to Hawkins, who turned and fired his effort into the back of the net off the underside of the bar, albeit via a deflection off the sliding Riley Harbottle.

Forest finished the game with nine men as Mallique Spooner received a second yellow in stoppage time following a foul, but they pressed for a late equaliser as Foulkes produced a fantastic save to keep out Dekel-Daks's close-range effort but The Tigers held on to claim all three points.

Forest: Shelvey, Back, Sanders (Greenwood 56'), Dekel-Daks, Spooner, Harbottle, Hammond, Barnes, Andrew (Osong 66'), Asare, Sherlock (Hill 46')

Unused subs: Mellors, Statham
