Virgil Gomis felt Nottingham Forest Under 23s fully deserved their win over Crystal Palace and a place in the Professional Development League play-off final.
The young forward scored the only goal of the game in extra time to seal a 1-0 victory at Selhurst Park and set up the final against Bolton Wanderers.
Speaking after the game, he said: "We definitely deserved the win. We were the better team, we played the better football and we deserved it.
"I thought we were the better team from start to finish. The lads put a great shift in, I thought we were the better team off the ball and when we did have it they couldn't get near us.
"We did have moments in the game where we were a bit sloppy and they had chances from it but we were better after half-time."
With the initial 90 minutes being goalless, Gomis stepped up in to convert from Gboly Ariyibi's pass and continue his fine scoring form.
"I was dying to get a goal," he said. "I saw Gboly had the ball and I knew where he was going to play it, because we do that quite a lot. I saw the keeper coming, knew he wasn't going to get it and I just finished it from there.
"I had a sloppy start to the season, I wasn't fully on it. I learned from my mistakes, picked myself up and I am having a wonderful end to the season."
