Ben Osborn believes competition for places can only help drive Nottingham Forest forward as they get set to face Birmingham City tomorrow.
The midfielder has been playing at left back in the last few games and is prepared to feature wherever he needs to for the benefit of the team.
He said: "There is a lot of competition for places. There are normally five or six lads who aren't getting in the squad, who are good pros who would get into any Championship side. The battle for places is on.
"Personally, I didn't play well against Hull and found myself on the bench against Burton, but I've got my chance at left back and I think I have done okay in the last couple of games and hopefully I can stay in the team.
"If we keep the results going, then it is good for everyone."
Osborn played a key role against QPR last weekend in the brilliant away victory, but is now determined to put on a display in front of the home fans on Saturday.
He knows that Birmingham will not be easy opposition though as they fight for points to climb out of the relegation zone.
He said: "A win was a long-time coming but to score five goals away from home and to put in a performance like that was great. We built on the previous two results and the win gives us a lot of confidence.
"It is important to build on that, do it in front of the home fans and make The City Ground a bit of a fortress again like we did towards the end of last season.
"It was nice to give the travelling fans something to cheer about with a few goals last weekend, so we need to deliver for the home fans now.
"Birmingham will be fighting for their lives. They gave us a tough game away earlier in the season and it will be a tough physical game. We just need to go out there and concentrate on what we can do and hopefully control the game for the majority to get the result."
