Nottingham Forest have joined Olympiacos, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Sporting Lisbon and Fenerbahce by becoming a signatory to the Athens Principles regarding Participation in sports for all.

The official signing took place at a dinner at Harvard University on the eve of the conference regarding participation, inclusion and social responsibility in global sports.
Keynote speakers at the dinner included Mr. Stephen Ortega and Sven Beckett (Simons College and Harvard University respectively). President of Barcelona Josep Maria Bartomeu, Real Madrid Director of Institutional Relations, Emilio Butragueno and Strategic Advisor for Olympiacos FC, Christian Karembeu also attended and participated at the conference.

Nottingham Forest Chairman, Nicholas Randall QC, gave a short speech on the signing of the principles and participated in the social responsibility discussion at the conference.
He said: “We are delighted to have participated in the conference and to now be signatories to the Athens Principles which Mr Marinakis has been so instrumental in developing. It was wonderful to join with senior academics from across the world along with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Olympiacos, the Boston Red Sox and the Seattle Sounders in developing these principles.
“A personal highlight was to sit at the opening dinner with Josep Maria Bartomeu, the President of Barcelona, and Emilio Butragueno of Real Madrid and to hear them speak so fondly of Nottingham Forest and how we were the team they supported in 1979-80 “
