Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka says he is delighted to have secured the signing of experienced defender Michael Dawson.
The Forest academy graduate put pen to paper on Wednesday to seal his return to The City Ground and the boss says Dawson will provide leadership and quality to The Reds' backline.
He said: "I'm really pleased because I always said that Michael is more than just a player. He knows how big and how important this club is and he wanted to come back.
"He's a really good player and a great character so he'll be very useful for us both on and off the pitch and they're the sort of players we're looking for.
"The most difficult thing to be on the pitch is a leader but that is exactly what Michael is. It's not a coincidence that he's achieved what he has in the game."
Karanka has come up against Dawson during his time at Real Madrid and Middlesbrough and is fully aware of the many qualities he can bring to the side.
He said: "I remember him playing for Tottenham when I was at Real Madrid and for Hull when I was at Middlesbrough so I know what a fantastic player he is. He's a natural leader and his character is everything.
"I had the same experiences in my time at Real Madrid when I was learning from Fernando Hierro and it's massively important. Michael will be able to give so much help to the younger players in this squad.
"This is not just a romantic signing for us. It's no good building a team of leaders off the pitch if they aren't good players on it.
"Michael is a talented player with lots of experience but he's not just coming here to take plaudits and then retire. He's coming here to be a part of this project and to be successful."
