It has been a tough first week back in pre-season training but Ben Watson knows the hard work has to be put in now to build for a successful season.
The Reds have been putting in the hard graft at St George’s Park and back at the training ground and Watson said it has been difficult but enjoyable.
He said: “We had an excellent week last week. It was a tough week, a lot of ball work and a lot of intensity with the ball, but it was enjoyable.
“The days of just running around pitches and doing all these crazy runs have gone out of football. There is a lot of thinking to it and the gaffer has put on some good sessions with his coaches and the boys have enjoyed it.
“We had a really good week at St George’s, we’ll have a good week this week then going into the trip away to Spain.
“There is a real buzz about the place. With all the new signings coming in, everyone is excited and everyone wants to get the season up and running.
“With the new boys coming in, the gaffer is installing this winning mentality, a mentality that he wants around the place throughout the club and not just the players but everyone involved, so I am really looking forward to this season.”
Watson knows that the Forest fans will show their excellent support once again next season, with over 18,500 season cards sold, and he hopes that The Reds can reward them for their loyalty with some good performances and results.
He said: “That doesn’t surprise me with the season card holders, as last season when it was tough, we were still getting 25,000 each week at home which is incredible support. But hopefully this season we can give them a bit more to cheer about.
“We have signed seven new players who are great additions and that is all down to the people behind the scenes, working hard over the summer and the manager and his staff as well.
“Hopefully, it is easy saying it now that we are going to have this great season but we have got to go out there on a Saturday and a Tuesday and really put in some performances and hopefully this can be the year.”
