Jack Colback was pleased to be back out on the pitch in a red shirt as he returned for Nottingham Forest against Scunthorpe United last night.
The midfielder signed on loan last week from Newcastle United for a second time, and felt it was a good performance in the 1-0 win at Glanford Park.
Speaking after the game, he said: “It was a nice little run out; it is the first one I have had in pre-season so far so I’ve got the cobwebs out a bit. I felt good and it was a decent team performance.
“It is not the same level, probably not the same intensity as you would get in a proper game. That is just natural with it being a friendly but they were a decent outfit, quite solid and I thought we controlled the game without pushing too hard.
“We could have got a few more but it is more about fitness and the players getting to know each other.”
The 28-year-old said he is excited by what the season can bring at The City Ground, but is well aware that the squad must work hard to achieve what they want this season.
He said: “I’m really happy to be back here and I’m excited at what is in store and what could be coming.
“There is a big buzz around the place and the manager has obviously signed some very good players; the Portuguese lads are very good and Hillal also looks really sharp so there is a buzz around the place.
“We obviously need to take it game by game, and we certainly have not been granted promotion by the signings we have made, We know it is going to be a tough, long hard season so we have to take it each game as it comes.”
