In Focus: Lewis Grabban

21 July 2018

Aitor Karanka was looking for an experienced striker to lead his attack for the 2018-19 Sky Bet Championship season and he filled that gap in the shape of Lewis Grabban.

The former Bournemouth and Aston Villa man put pen to paper on a four-year deal at The City Ground earlier this month and his goalscoring prowess, aligned with his leadership skills, could be vital for The Reds this season.

Grabban signed for Crystal Palace's academy at the age of 13 and just four years later he made his first-team debut for The Eagles in a 3-0 League Cup win over Millwall.

After successful spells at Millwall and Rotherham United, his performances attracted interest from League One side Bournemouth and he found the net 13 times to help them on their way to automatic promotion to the Championship.

He scored 20 times during the last campaign, has an impressive tally of 112 career goals to his name and arrives with a wealth of Premier League and Championship experience under his belt.

Villa boss Steve Bruce described Grabban as a player who was 'bang in form' last season while former Sunderland boss Chris Coleman said he was sad to lose a 'natural goalscorer' when the striker left the Stadium of Light in January.

The 30-year-old feels he is now back to his best in front of goal and is ready to get started having enjoyed a number of training sessions with his new teammates.

He said: "Last season was a good season; it was back to playing. Hopefully that will continue and I can put in the same type of performances here that I did last season and see where it takes us.

"Football is not just based on stats. Game by game I judge it by where I should be at during the season but obviously as a striker, everyone says 20 goals is the magic number."

See Grabban and the rest of the summer signings when Forest take on AFC Bournemouth in their only home pre-season friendly at The City Ground on Saturday 28th July (kick-off 3pm).
