Nottingham Forest forward Gil Dias was thrilled to get on the scoresheet in The Reds' 2-0 pre-season friendly win over Bournemouth.

The Portuguese doubled Forest's advantage after Tendayi Darikwa's first-half opener and Dias believes it was helpful to notch his first goal at The City Ground to calm some of the pre-match nerves.

Speaking after the game he said: “It’s my first game in this stadium so obviously I’m happy to score my first goal here. The team have worked really hard during pre-season and I know that we’re ready for the first game against Bristol City next weekend.

“I was nervous before the game because I wanted to do well in front of the Forest fans but I think I played well so hopefully the fans are happy. It has been easier for me to settle in having Tobias, Diogo and Joao here and all the other players have been really good with me.

“When I fell (in the build-up to the goal), I saw that I had space to run into so it made sense to get up again and run. My target in every game is to score a goal so to do it in my first game at The City Ground made me really happy."

Forest begin their Sky Bet Championship campaign at Ashton Gate next weekend and Dias says the Bournemouth victory is an excellent platform on which to build.

He said: “It is only one game against a good team but this should give us confidence ahead of next week’s match and make sure we’re ready for the Championship. We have strength all across the pitch so hopefully we can perform well in the league this season.

“When you win a game like this, it does make it exciting to think about how we might do in the Championship this season. I’ve spoken to my friends who play at Wolves and they’ve said that the Championship is a very physical league so it will be a hard challenge but a good one hopefully.

“The team spirit is really good and the lads are all confident. We have a good team and hopefully we can challenge in the Championship this season. Now it is about having a good week of training and preparing for Bristol City."
