Preview: Hull (A)

26 January 2018

Nottingham Forest's Emirates FA Cup campaign continues on Saturday with a trip to face Hull City in the fourth round.

The Reds dumped holders Arsenal out of the competition with a memorable third-round victory earlier this month and will be looking to reach the fifth round for the first time in four years.

Aitor Karanka's men will also be keen to build some momentum on the back of last weekend's victory at league leaders Wolves, and head to the KCOM Stadium where they have already won this season after the 3-2 triumph back in October.

Hull defeated League One side Blackburn Rovers to reach this stage of the competition and Nigel Adkins' side will be looking to the cup for more respite from their poor league form which has seen them go winless in seven games.

The Tigers do have pedigree in the competition in recent years though, reaching the final in 2013-14 where they took a 2-0 lead but eventually lost 3-2 against Arsenal after extra time.

See below for the pre-match views from the Forest camp.

Team news

Liam Bridcutt misses out for The Reds as the midfielder starts a two-match ban after picking up his tenth yellow card of the season in the win at Wolves.

David Vaughan and Jamie Ward have both returned to training this week and are in contention while Daryl Murphy remains sidelined.

From the opposition

Nigel Adkins has challenged his players to be more ruthless in front of goal in order to improve results.

"We're creating big chances - I think we're fourth in the division at this moment in for chances created - but right now our conversion rate isn't what we'd like it to be," he said. "That's the missing piece of the jigsaw.

"That's the most important bit and we all know that, so we've got to look to improve on that front going forward.

"In every game I've been here, we've had big, big chances but we haven't managed to put those away on a consistent basis. Performances have been good, but we need to turn to those performances into results by scoring more goals.

"Some may say we're not having that little bit of fortune go our way, but on the other hand, maybe we're not being ruthless enough in front of goal. That will only change through practice though.

"We need to do the basics to an elite level and take things from there. There's a good focus amongst the group and we're working hard on the training ground to address the situation."

One to watch - Jarrod Bowen

Young forward Jarrod Bowen has made an impression in his breakthrough season for Hull City. The 21-year-old has chipped in with 11 goals so far in this campaign, including a strike against Nottingham Forest in the game back in October.

He made his debut for the club last season, but has cemented his place in the side in this campaign. Bowen was scoring freely at the start of the season and the goals may have dried up a little since, but he is still one for The Reds defenders to keep an eye on.
