A late goal from Lewis Walters wasn't enough to prevent Nottingham Forest Under 23s from suffering defeat to Derby County in the Premier League Cup.
A brace from Alex Babos put The Rams firmly in charge at The City Ground and despite Walters' reply six minutes from time, Forest couldn't find the all-important leveller.
The visitors had the better of the early exchanges as Jamie Hanson hit the post with a low free-kick and eventually they took lead on 25 minutes as Babos headed home a terrific cross from Sven Karic.
Gareth Holmes made a change at half-time as Aaron Smith replaced Brennan Johnson but it was Derby who doubled their lead midway through the second half when Babos fired home from just inside the penalty area.
Walters did give Forest some late hope when he turned home Virgil Gomis's cross from close range but it wasn't to be The Reds' night as all three points went back along the A52.
