Nottingham Forest Under 23s suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Birmingham City in the Professional Development League on Saturday.
Goals from Kyle McFarlane and Ryan Burke in the second half secured all three points for The Blues on a disappointing day for The Reds.
The home side had a huge chance to take an early lead on 14 minutes when they were awarded a penalty but Liam Bossin ensured that it remained goalless when he denied Geraldo Bajrami from 12 yards.
The home side continued to be in control of the game but The Reds nearly snatched one on the brink of half-time when Blues goalkeeper Michael Luyambala denied a Forest man at point-blank range.
It took just three minutes into the second half for Birmingham to break the deadlock when McFarlane prodded the ball into the net after The Reds failed to clear a corner. Forest continued to struggle to find their feet and that showed when the home side made it two on 78 minutes.
Burke let fly from long range and his shot flew into the top corner to give his side a commanding 2-0 lead. Things suddenly went from bad to worse for Forest when Ryan Yates was shown a second yellow card and his marching orders for dissent, as The Blues ran out comfortable winners.
