Danny Fox knows that Nottingham Forest need to put in a good performance against Millwall to head into the New Year on a positive note.
The defender returned to the side from injury at Norwich on Boxing Day and is eager to get the three points to keep pace with the sides at the top of the table.
He said: "We know that in certain games we have performed to a very high standard, but in others we have let ourselves and the fans down when we should be winning those games, especially home games against the likes of Preston and QPR.
"We need to start doing that otherwise we will be falling away from the top six not just the top two.
"This is a crucial time and we have a tough game against Millwall then a massive game in front of a packed crowd on New Year's Day against Leeds who are flying themselves.
"We need to focus on the next game, which is at Millwall, and putting in a good performance to get the three points going into the New Year."
Fox is expecting a tough game at The Den and is anticipating a battle against Millwall's typically direct style.
He said: "It will be a tough test and we found that out last season when we went 2-0 down early on. We missed a handful of chances in that game too but it is old school; it is what it is and you need to get the young lads ready for it.
"It will be a frantic start and we want to put to bed the game at home when we were 2-0 up and drew 2-2 in the last ten minutes. Obviously, we want to get back to winning ways and we want that as soon as possible.
"Any game in the Championship, teams have a variety of ways of playing and Millwall are direct in their approach. It is part and parcel of it but I am looking forward to the challenge and the atmosphere and I'll make sure all the other lads are as well."
