Nottingham Forest and supporters unite for Greece

10 August 2018

Nottingham Forest and key supporter groups are uniting this weekend to help raise vital funds to support those affected by the tragic wildfires in Greece.

On Monday 23rd July, the region of Attica in Greece was struck by the country’s worst disaster in more than a decade when at least 93 people lost their lives as wildfires engulfed the area which surrounds Athens.

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, who was born in Piraeus, a port city in Attica, pledged his support to the families and communities that were affected with a sizable donation of €1million and our friends and colleagues at Olympiacos have also provided their support and solidarity with the victims.

For tomorrow’s match against Reading, the club and the Supporters’ Club, the Supporters’ Trust and Forza Garibaldi will be holding collections at various positions around The City Ground to give Forest fans the opportunity to donate and show their support and solidarity with our friends in Greece. The Southbank, Larwood and Voce and the Trent Navigation will all have collection points for fans wishing to donate in addition to those around The City Ground.

Chairman Nicholas Randall QC said: “On behalf of everyone at Nottingham Forest, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to those affected by the tragic events in Attica, Greece.

"The generous donation of €1million by our owner Mr Marinakis has given us the lead. We have been overwhelmed with the spontaneous requests from our supporters to provide some financial assistance. The staff and players have also offered their generous support.

"In the light of this we will be operating collection points for our fans to express their solidarity and show support during the game on Saturday. I would also like to thank our friends in The Southbank, the Larwood and Voce and the Trent Navigation for offering their support in such a practical way.”

For supporters who wish to contribute directly Olympiacos has established a fund-raising account at.
