In the first of a new series of features celebrating Trickies around the world, we find out more about NFFC NYC, the growing group of Reds supporters based in New York City.
Who is behind the group?
Karl Hudson formed what is known as NFFCNYC. Karl was ‘back and forth’ from the UK to NYC back in 2010 before he moved to The Big Apple full time in 2011. In more recent times Dan and Karl (both originally from the Midlands) have shared the running of the group. We are here to make sure any Trickies who visit New York have a place to watch the game and chat about all things Forest.
How long has the group been running?
The group has been running full-time since 2011 but has become more-and-more active in recent months.
How many fans are involved?
We have no ‘membership’ as such, and our group is basically made up of anyone who wants to watch Forest here in New York City. For some games we have 15 to 20, others a handful. It’s a mix of expats, locals and tourists who want somewhere to watch whilst on holiday. Even in New York this season has felt different already and this is reflected in the numbers that we see in the bar on matchdays.
How can visiting fans find you on a match day?
We run our club from Smithfield Hall (25th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue) in Manhattan. There are other supporters’ groups from around the world who also call Smithfield home, such as Manchester United, Barcelona, Gremio and West Ham.
How can fans around the world follow you?
Fans can stay in touch – and get in touch – with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @nffcnyc.
If you are ever in NYC get in touch!
