Aitor Karanka said he is looking forward to getting the new season underway when Nottingham Forest face Bristol City on Saturday.
The Forest boss said it has been a perfect pre-season and The Reds are ready and raring to go at Ashton Gate to get the season up and running.
He said: "Of course I am excited. The day that I don't have that excitement, I will go home. It is nice, especially this season when we – and when I say we, I mean the whole club – have been working very well.
"We have had the players since the very beginning so it has been a nice summer and I could enjoy the pre-season because everything has been perfect so far.
"I don't like to say it is perfect when speaking about the future, but so far everything has been perfect. The players have been working really well, the new ones and the players that have been here, everybody has understood what is going on so I am very pleased."
After some good performances in pre-season, Karanka knows that getting a result on Saturday matters the most and he is expecting to face a tough a Bristol City side.
"For me, it is the biggest one now," he said. "It is the first game, I know how good Lee Johnson has been doing there; I have known him since he started at Barnsley. I really like him, we were at the hotel in Marbella during pre-season for one day and it will be a tough game.
"They won promotion two or three years ago and last season they were close to getting in the play-offs. They have lost a few good players but their replacements have been very good."
