A thumping 4-0 win for Nottingham Forest Under 23s against Huddersfield, coupled with a defeat for Sheffield Wednesday, saw them snatch a Professional Development League play-off place on the final day of the season.
A superb run by The Reds has seen the hunt down The Owls and overhaul them on the final day, with Burnley's win at Hillsborough ensuring Gareth Holmes's side take second spot and set up a play-off against Crystal Palace on Tuesday night (kick-off 7pm).
Forest went into this afternoon's game against Huddersfield knowing that only a win would do and they had a positive start as Virgil Gomis continued his hot streak with a superb strike into the top corner after 10 minutes.
On 27 minutes it was 2-0 to Forest as Arvin Appiah was brought down in the area and he stepped up to convert from the penalty spot and from then The Reds were in full control of the game.
It took until late on though for Forest to add further gloss to the scoreline as firstly Gomis fired into the bottom corner on 78 before Toby Edser wrapped things up with a close-range finish on 80 minutes to ensure their season is extended by at least one more game.
