Jason Cummings said the win over Sheffield United was massive heading into the international break.
The Reds ended a bad run of form with a 2-1 win against The Blades at The City Ground, with Cummings and Kieran Dowell both on target.
The Scotsman said: "It was a massive win for us. I was happy as well to get my goal and help the boys win and Kieran with a fantastic finish as well.
"We needed that win to go into that break. It is massive for our confidence and with Derby when we come back. For the fans it has given them something to cheer about as well as they have been sticking behind us for the last few games when it hasn't gone our way.
"To be fair, I don't think we deserved to win but in the last few games we have deserved something and we stuck in and got the result so we are delighted."
The Reds came from behind after John Lundstram's third-minute opener and Cummings had faith that they would be able to turn things around after the early setback.
He said: "We know that we have firepower up top. Even when we went 1-0 down we always fancy ourselves to score; I was never uncomfortable as I know we will create chances. We did and we got a couple of goals and the defence was different class at the end to hang in there.
"I'm not bothered who gets the goals; I am happy but all that matters are the three points after a couple of bad results. We just wanted to get the three points and now we can have a good international break then keep going when we come back."
